At La Garenne, we have four self-catering cottages, three cottages sleep 4-5 people, and our largest cottage, La Grange, sleeps 6-7 people, so we can cater for any size of family. We can also combine cottages to cater to larger families and groups. La Garenne is set in the peaceful Blavet Valley in southern Brittany, surrounded by beautiful Breton countryside. There is lots of space in this private, exclusive location, which includes ample parking, ideal if you have a large family car or several cars. You can park right outside your cottage.
From the calm serenity of the accommodation and grounds at La Garenne, about a mile and a half along the River Blavet is the West Wake Park. This is an old quarry that has been filled with water and now serves as an ultra-fun water park where you can wake board, stand-up paddle board, ride the water slides, or just enjoy splashing around, safe in the knowledge there are lifeguards keeping an eye on things. Holiday fun for all the family in this wonderful part of Brittany. The ride, or walk, from La Garenne to the water park is easy and safe along the River Blavet tow path, and it is also beautiful, with the wooded slopes, fish jumping, and birds watching patiently! Brittany is like an open-air museum, with so many beautiful, historic villages and towns, one of which is the town of Vannes. An amazing 272 historic monuments are hiding within the walls of Vannes. And these defences are something to write home about, as they fence off almost the entire old city with powerful gates and towers.
It’s hardly an exaggeration to say that you’ll be wondering what year it is when you idle along the cobbled streets and enter squares with timber houses from the 1400s and 1500s.
Then you can set sail for the Gulf of Morbihan, where there’s an archipelago of 42 islands in smooth waters that are closed off from the Atlantic.
Seafood is superb in Vannes, with really fresh shellfish. A plateau de fruits de mer is a large platter of prawns, langoustine, oysters, crab, mussels, and more. You also can’t ignore the crêpes in Brittany, as they are practically a way of life. Try one sweet with nutella or caramel, or go for a savoury galette with egg, cheese, and ham or saucisson. There is enough choice to satisfy the culinary requirements of any family!
